With kitchens being the center of action where most people tend to gravitate when entertaining, the dining room seems to have fallen out of favor. I was recently perusing the Southern Living website and came across some inspirational decorating ideas for dining rooms that I decided to highlight for this post which I thought made for a nice alternative gathering post for family and friends.
What I liked most about the following dining rooms featured is the nice mix of furnishings that combines formal and casual pieces. What’s nice about this approach is the fact that the dining room can be totally transformed at a modest price in comparison to the days of purchasing a full set of dining room furniture. It also makes for a much more interesting and relaxing vibe that encourages multi-use activities whether that be reading or play games just to name a few.
Here a formal table is dressed down with casual painted chairs. Similar faux bamboo chairs can be found at Ballard Designs.
Antique iron chairs surround a rustic table in this dining room.
A mix of chairs can be unified by painting them the same color.
This mix of seating options highlights the fact that all matching chairs is optional.
This etagere adds a nice contrast to what would have otherwise been a plain white room.
A banquette with a bistro table is a smart idea for a smaller dining room.
And lastly a mid-century modern table mixed with a classic camelback sofa in a bold coral fabric and zigzag printed pillows and chairs bring a high energy look to this dining room.
